He's Growing and Changing All the Time

I can't believe how fast time is going by. I would have thought that staying home with Kale all day might make for some really long days, but most of the time I can't believe how fast the days go by. It feels like I get one thing done and next thing I know it's dark outside and Tyler is coming home! Needless to say, Kale consumes all of my attention and I love it. He's so adorable and I am taking advantage of cuddling with him as much as possible now since there will come a time when he will be embarrassed to cuddle with me. *Sigh*

Anywho, here are some more pictures of him :)

These are the p.j.'s Nana Gerber sent to us for Halloween. They are so soft and comfy!

Tyler's grandparents sent Kale these shoes and we think they are the cutest thing ever.

Kale really likes his bouncer, and because he likes it so much, mommy LOVES the bouncer.

I love all the silly faces he makes.

Getting in some good cuddle time :)

His little beanie fits him so well now! He wasn't too happy with me for putting him in his car seat at the time, but once we started driving he was a very happy little boy. He loves the car rides. A couple of nights ago he was being really fussy for just hours upon hours, so I finally just loaded him up into the car. 5 minutes into the ride he was out like a lamp.

Kale sleeps best in our bed...little stinker.

Yesterday Kale was just so much fun, just laying in the boppy talking to himself and playing. Obviously I had to take pictures.

He is so cute when he stretches!

Kale's First Halloween

Yesterday was a fun Halloween with Kale. I hung out with him all day and then when Tyler got home we went to Payson. His little pumpkin costume was the cutest thing ever! We got some good pictures of him and had just a really good time.

Kale makes the silliest faces!!

More Pictures and a Baby Blessing

I can't believe how fast time is flying by. Kale is already 3 weeks old! And he's growing like mad. He is now 22 1/2 inches long and 8 pounds 2 ounces. Not much longer now and his newborn outfits won't fit him!!

Since the last post a few things have happened; we blessed Kale last Sunday while my parents were still in town. It was really wonderful and I'm so glad my dad could be here for it. The only bummer was that Shane and Realyn were out of town for it. It was really wonderful and Kale looked absolutely adorable.

Also, my mom went back to Iowa this week. I missed her the minute she left, and my dad too of course. It was so wonderful having her here; she not only pitched in with getting up with Kale in the night, cleaned my apartment, made us meals, and just spoiled me rotten, she also taught me the things I needed to know so that I could survive without her. Words cannot express how grateful I am to her. I'm also so grateful for the chance we had to spend this time together to improve our relationship; I feel closer to my mom than ever and I just love her so much! I'm sad that my 2 younger brothers haven't been able to meet Kale yet; Kyle because he's on his mission in Phoenix, AZ and Dain because he couldn't miss school or cross country. However, I'm am very excited for Christmas when Dain will finally get to meet him and when Kyle gets home Kale will be almost 2 years old and just a blast. Uncle Jake has gotten to see Kale many times and I must say it is a strange thing to see him hold a little baby. Jake has always been good with kids but I've never seen him interact with a baby before. It's pretty cute to see him hold Kale :)

Other than that not much has happened. Tyler has been busy with school, work, and football and will be traveling with the football team this coming weekend to Dallas. We've been surviving the long nights and let me tell you, Kale is lucky he's so dang adorable. He's been having tummy aches so we got him so medicine that seems to be helping. He makes the funniest faces! We haven't been able to capture them on camera because he doesn't do them for very long, but they just make us laugh.

Here are more pictures that we have taken:

Leaving the hospital

His first bath at home. He really isn't a big fan of the sponge bath. In a few days, when his circumcision has healed, we'll be giving him real baths and we hope that he likes them!

Grandpa Gerber really liked this shirt. It says, "Grandpa, I want a pet Dinosaur."

These are his adorable p.j.'s that fit him a lot better than we thought they were going to as a newborn.

One morning I woke up and it had been like 4 hours since the last time I had gotten up with Kale. I was shocked that it had been so long so I went to check on him and found my mom and him sleeping together on her air mattress. It was possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen.

Kale's Great Grandma came down from Ogden to visit. He's so long that she had to turn him sideways to fit on her lap!

Taking Kale out on his first walk.

Grandma's Little Pumpkin :)

My boys cuddling with each other. I love my boys!

This is how Kale likes to sleep right now. Watching too much football maybe?

Aunt Janie and cousin Gracie getting a chance to hold him finally. They were so cute with him!

Grandpa Patterson got a chance to hang with him for a while.

Grandma Patterson, Gracie and Kolbi giving Kale some love. Kale is so lucky to have such great cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents!

Bundling Kale up to go on another walk. His hat is still a little big...

Nana Gerber cuddling with Kale on her last night here. It was the cutest thing, he cuddled with her for about 3 hours. It was like he knew she was leaving and that she wouldn't get to hold him for a while.

Kale Grant Patterson

Well, now that Kale is a whole week old it's high time he was blogged about by his mommy. Here's how it went down:

Last Saturday I went with my parents to meet up with our great friends the Wayments to watch their daughter's soccer game. Becky Wayment is a labor and delivery nurse (she actually was the nurse who helped deliver me!) and she said it would be a good idea for me to do some walking. For any of you who don't know, at this point I was a week past my due date, so we were all ready for this little guy to get here! So, I did some walking and I started having small, inconsistent contractions. They would pop up here and there throughout the day and at about 5:00 I told Tyler that he should prepare himself for something to happen. However, at about 6:00 they stopped and I didn't believe they would be coming back. I was scheduled to be induced Sunday night anyway.
But then, at about 1:00 AM I got up to go to the bathroom and when I got back into bed...WHAM, I was hit with a pretty strong contraction; and then another one not too far behind it. So, I woke Tyler up, told him I was having contractions and that he needed to help me time them. The first two were 4 minutes apart, the next one came 3 minutes later. Tyler was up and getting things together in record time. I went and woke my mom up to ask her how long they needed to be consistent before I went to the hospital, and when we told her they were coming 3-4 minutes apart she just said, "You guys better get going." Tyler was way ahead of her. He already had everything by the door and ready to go. My dad tried to help me put some shoes on, but my feet were so swollen that we had to opt for flip flops. We got to the hospital (Timpanogos) at about 1:30 and I got my epidural around 3:00. Let me just pause to say that epidurals are the greatest invention known to mankind. Also, my anesthesiologist was hilarious which made the whole experience even better. From that point on I spent the morning progressing and sleeping. I actually got some of the best sleep I'd had in a while. After they broke my water and gave me a little pitocin, I progressed rather quickly. At noon I started pushing and our little bundle of joy was here at 12:48!

Tyler and I were shocked when they told us how big he was; we thought for sure he'd be in the 6 pound range! We got over the shock eventually and were just so grateful to have him here and that he was so healthy.
Tyler was absolutely amazing and I definitely couldn't have done this without him. He held my hand through it all and constantly told me how good I was doing. He cracked a few jokes and just made me as comfortable as I possibly could have been. As silly as it sounds, I had fun going through this because he was right there with me.

After a couple of hours, the grandparents, who had been patiently waiting, were brought in to see their new grandson.

Nana Gerber was overjoyed!

Grandpa Gerber fell in love with the little guy as soon as he held him.

We stayed at the hospital until Tuesday afternoon and my
parents came to visit us often, which was so fun! All of Tyler's family came to visit us too but they were there for 5 minutes and got kicked out because I HAD to feed him right then and there even though he wasn't hungry!! I was very frustrated that we didn't get to see them longer. However, on Monday Shane came by after work which was so great and then later that night the Richards paid us a visit too! Tyler's mom also came to visit us which was really really great, and on our first day there she brought us a delicious milkshake from Sonic. Love her!

Addison held Kale and did such a good job! And Kolbi was just running around yelling "Kale! Kale! I love Kale!" It was so adorable.

Overall it's been a crazy couple of days. We've gotten a lot of help from all of our family and friends. Thank you to everyone for all your help and support and there will be another update and pictures very soon!
